THE TRUTH THAT SETS US FREE

THE TRUTH THAT SETS US FREE

Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a King. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the Truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto Him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in Him no fault at all. (John 18:37–38)

This witness is not a claim to earthly power but the declaration of a Person who is Truth itself. For of a truth Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. (John 8:14) He speaks with an authority rooted in divine origin and destiny.

Jesus prayed for His own, saying, Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (John 17:17) From the first, the Word has been God: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) Thus Truth is not merely an idea, but the living Person of Christ.

He who is Truth also brings liberation: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6, KJV) And He promises the freedom that follows knowing Him: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32) If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (John 8:36)

The Scriptures themselves point to this same Truth. Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. (John 5:3) And the gospel explains the purpose of His coming: For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:16–17)

Christ is the Truth who testifies of Himself, sanctifies by the Word, and frees those who receive Him. Have you found your way to God through Jesus Christ, the Truth? If you seek Him, the Scriptures and His voice call you to come and be made free.
