09 Mar FAVOURED BY GOD
A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn (Proverbs 12:2).
Here we see the contrast between the good and wicked and the Scripture gives us a short but concise and clear characteristic of a goodman for it is written He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? (Micah 6:7)
What then is good?
✓GOOD
√ G- Godly
But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for Himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto Him (Psalm 4:3).
He does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful (Psalm 1:1). For this reason God sets him apart for His favour.
√ O- Obedience
For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil (Romans 16:19).
And Moses verily was faithful in all His house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after (Hebrews 5:8).
A good man is faithful and obedient to all the commands and instructions of God.
√ O- Oduor of Sweet Smell
But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God (Philippians 4:18).
Here lies a deep secret. Only few people know that your smell will determine whether or not you will receive a blessing immediately it is perceived.
•The LORD and Noah
And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease (Genesis 8:20-22).
•Isaac and Jacob
And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son. And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed: Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine: Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee (Genesis 27:26-29).
• Paul and The Philippians
But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:18-19).
The good man is godly, saved and obedient to God. He is genuinely Born Again and always have an aroma of sweet savour of Christ therefore it is written Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of His knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ (2 Corinthians 2:14-17).
√ D -Delight in God’s Commandments
And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved (Psalm 119:47)
Concerning the good man it is written But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night (Psalm 1:2). He delights not only to read, study and meditate on the word but promptly to obey and observe every word and commandments of God.
