23 Aug GUIDED BY GOD’S SOVEREIGNITY
Man’s goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way? (Proverbs 20:24).
Man is limited in knowledge and therefore can err in judgement. Prophet Jeremiah acknowledged this fact, 1O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps (Jeremiah 10:23). We cannot function properly as God’s mouthpiece when we rely on our own wisdom instead of relying on God. If you are guilty of self-sufficiency, pray like Jeremiah, O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing (Jeremiah 10:24). Self-dependence cripples prayerfulness. It is written Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him (Proverbs 26:12) and the Scripture warns, Be not wise in your own conceits (Romans 12:16) but exhorts, Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). Your life is guided by God’s sovereignty, I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing (John 15:5). You must recognize that God directs your steps and paths. You must be willing to yield and rely on His guidance for direction. He guided and protected you in the past, He is doing same in the present and will do the same in the future, Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us (2 Corinthians 1:10). Trust in Him, for man plans but God decides as it is written There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand (Proverbs 19:21) for the counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of His heart to all generations (Psalm 33:11).
