24 Oct PROUD
IN THE LAST DAYS (DAY 5)
PROUD (2 Timothy 3:2)
- P – Pride goes before destruction: But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the Lord to burn incense upon the altar of incense (2 Chronicles 26:16)The punishment of leprosy overtook king Uzziah when he wanted the combination of the high-priest-hood with the throne ( 2 Chronicles 26:17-21).
- R – Rebellion : And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3:2-3)Eve ate the fruit from the tree not only because it was good for food (Genesis 3:6) but also because she desired to be like God, knowing good and evil(Genesis 3:22-24). This is pride at work
- O- Oppose God’s will and exalt oneself: How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit (Isaiah 14:12-15) Pride of heart caused him to lose his name as Lucifer, “son of morning” and become Satan, the devil, the arch-enemy of God and the adversary (1 Peter 5:8) and the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10)
- U – Ultimately fall for arrogance leads to a downfall: At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon. The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty? While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee. And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws. (Daniel 4:29-33). God Almighty brought the proud, arrogant and haughty king to the end of himself, and lead him to abase himself before the Majesty in the heavens
- D – Despised and rejected by God: Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments. (Psalm 119:21).
May God save us from all pride of the flesh for as it is written, But He giveth more grace. Wherefore He saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble (James 4:6)
