23 Mar THE NECESSITY AND IMPORTANCE OF A DAILY PERSONAL SELF-EXAMINATION
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? (2 Corinthians 13:5)
Don’t be surprised or shocked to know that it is possible to work for the faith, and yet not be in the faith. Many people are religious but not righteous and regenerated. It is sad to note that many professing to be Christians have been baptized with water but never washed in the blood of the Lamb. Considering the above reasons, it is important and needful that you test and examine yourself daily to know if you are in the faith or just working for the faith. You need not only to examine yourself but judge yourself in the light of the answer for it is written for if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged (1 Corinthians 11:31).
( 1)The Holy Club
If you are a Christian, I assume that you know the Methodist Church or might have heard of it. If you attend the Methodist Church then you already know that John Wesley was the founder of the Methodist Church but what you might not know is that he belonged to a group called the Holy Club.
(2) SELF -EXAMIMATION
Below are the twenty-two questions the members of the Holy Club ask themselves each day as part of their daily devotions. I want you to ask yourself these twenty-two self-examination questions.
- Am I consciously or unconsciously creating the impression that I am better than I really am?
- Am I honest in all my acts and words, or do I exaggerate?
- Do I confidentially pass on to another what was told to me in confidence?
- Can I be trusted?
- Am I a slave to dress, friend, work, or habits?
- Am I self-conscious, self-pitying or self-justifying?
- Did the Bible live in me today?
- Do I give it time to speak to me every day?
- Am I enjoying prayer?
- When did I last speak to someone else about my faith?
- Do I pray about the money I spend?
- Do I get to bed on time and get up on time?
- Do I disobey God in anything?
- Do I insist upon doing something about which my conscience is uneasy?
- Am I defeated in any part of my life?
- Am I jealous, impure, critical, irritable, touchy or distrustful?
- How do I spend my spare time?
- Am I proud?
- Do I thank God that I am not as other people, especially as the Pharisee who despised the publican?
- Is there anyone whom I fear, dislike, disown, criticize, hold resentment toward or disregard?
- Do I grumble or complain constantly?
- Is Christ real to me?
Please I plead with you to settle it now with yourself so that you won’t have anything to settle in eternity, therefore live your life as if Jesus died yesterday, rose today and is coming back tomorrow.
