10 Nov PART 4 : DOING THE WORKS OF GOD: TOPIC: OF GREAT MERCY
The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. The LORD is good to all: and His tender mercies are over all His works (Psalm 145:8-9)
Dearly Beloved May God’s mercy speak for in every situation and every place in your life in Jesus name Amen.
(1) The Proclamation of Mercy
And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation (Exodus 34:6-7)
The declaration of God’s mercy should bring us to adoration, thanksgiving and prayer.
(a) Adoration
Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He retaineth not His anger for ever, because He delighteth in mercy. He will turn again, He will have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old (Micah 7:18-20)
(b) Thanksgiving
O give thanks unto the LORD; for He is good: for His mercy endureth for ever. (Psalm 136:1)
(c) Prayer
The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands (Psalm 138:8)
(2) The Prerogative of Mercy
For He saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy (Romans 9:15-16)
(a) Saul
But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee (2 Samuel 7:15)
When God took away His mercy from Saul it is written that But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him (1 Samuel 16:14) Concerning evil from the LORD it is written that I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things (Isaiah 45:7)
(b)David
Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David (Isaiah 55:3)
If there was a man who enjoyed the mercies of God it was the sweet psalmist and prophetic of Israel David and I pray that from today you will start enjoying the sure mercies of David in Jesus name Amen.
(3) The Petition for Mercy
(a)For Forgiveness of Sin
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions (Psalm 51:1)
(b) For Healing
And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto Him: and when he was come near, He asked him, Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God (Luke 18:38-43)
(c) For Deliverance
And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil (Mathew 18:22)
(4) The Promise of Mercy
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy (Mathew 5:7)
This is one of the noble Beatitudes and by power of the Holy Spirit we will practice mercy in our life for this is the work of God.
Summary
For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment (James 2:13)
